The Radiant Sun Society
The dharma teachings offered through this online library are the result of long hours of dedicated work in conservation, archiving, digitizing, transcribing, editing, and administering the Vajra Regent Ösel Tendzin Library. This work has gone forward under the leadership of Lady Lila Rich, the Library & Archives director, and a steering committee of volunteers. A generous but small group of supporters have provided some necessary funds for preserving the core collection of audio and video recordings in digital format. And, since the Vajra Regent’s parinirvana in 1990, more than 100 students have volunteered their time in the ongoing transcribing of the collected teachings of the Vajra Regent.
We have built the foundation of the Library & Archives’ holdings and resources, and in order to go forward and share these brilliant teachings more widely, we need to create an energetic and broad base of support. To that end we have formed the Radiant Sun Society as a way to support the Library & Archives on an ongoing basis.
The name, “Radiant Sun Society” is inspired, first, by the Vajra Regent’s refuge name: Karma Chökyi Dawa Legpai Lodro Ösel Tendzin Chögle Namgyal, meaning “Karma Moon of Dharma Excellent Intellect Radiant Holder of the Teachings Victorious in All Directions.” Ösel means “luminosity” or “radiance.” Second, the word “Sun” is a reference to the Shambhala Order of the Great Eastern Sun bestowed on the Vajra Regent by his teacher, the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. The vision of the Radiant Sun Society is to radiate the brilliant teachings of our dharma lineage to all.
We invite and encourage your participation. Membership in the Radiant Sun Society is $10.00 a month, but we greatly appreciate donations of any amount. All donations are tax deductible and can be set up as an automatic monthly withdrawal through our website. As a member of the Society, you will receive access to teachings, in particular a login to the new Timeline of teachings at vajraregent.org, and e-Bulletins on the activities of the Library & Archives.
